Brid 2 Scarborough 1 (h)

28 07 2008

Our second home game of the season, rekindled that old landlord / tenant combo that is far too common in the lower leagues.

It was to be the inaugural event of the Bridlington Memorial Trophy which was an idea by a Mr Ani Mad on the forum, but sponsored by our good pal Uncle G – who ironically wasn’t there to present the award as he and his family were away on holiday, so his father made the presentation.

I couldn’t get to the game either, as my poor old wife was suffering a Stalag 17 kind of imprisonment at Hull Royal, having suffered the trauma of having a tracheostomy fitted. It has just been an ongoing nightmare for the poor lass who has suffered nothing but grief after undergoing a “routine” operation earlier in the year.

I have to admit, I blabbed like a good ‘un during the week, at the thought that my wifes life will never be the same, and all the suffering, pain and trauma she has been through this year and she still keeps smiling, can’t do anything but a bring a tear to the eye of even the strongest of people. The kids have been immense at this difficult time too and have been an absolute credit to the wife and I.

Bill Shankly is famous for saying “Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don’t like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that” – thats fine until it’s at your own door, The Shankly link is worth a nose, as it is a very fine site dedicated to the great man.

Will more than likely miss the game on Tuesday too.
