Brid 5 Winterton 1 (a)

22 12 2008

Friday night was a big night for us, we took the kids (and mother in law) to the Pidgeon Fanciers Christmas Turkey Bingo at Flamborough. Always a chance to win a nice plump bird for the old Xmas table, and a good chance to win some booze in the raffle. We got a bottle of Sherry and some chocs, the mother in law won a brace of pheasants and massive box of fruit, but most of all, the kids had a good time.

I took a reasonably last minute decision to go to the game on Saturday, and the wife and little ‘un decided to go shopping in Hull if I “was going that way.” The boy and I arrived dead on three and saw quite a few familiar faces (and that was just the team…boom boom) – a good 25 from Brid were there. The facilities are good, and a nice tea & sarny (50p for a cheese and onion sarni – marvellous), and I feel we were made most welcome by our hosts.

The game from a Brid perspective started in explosive fashion with the lads having many efforts early doors, this pressure paid off with a well worked goal on 8 minutes from Phillo. We continued to dominate and mid way through the half we got a deserved penalty when Nathan Hotte was brought (chopped) down in the box. Palms took the kick, and smacked it against the post, he hit it with such force that it ended way outside the box before anyone got near it. From here to the end of the half our opponents seemed to get into the game and the Brid heads dropped a little. And yes as is always the case, Winterton got an equaliser not long after.

The break didn’t seemed to change too much, Brid heads a little low, some moaning at each other. I said to PaulNFFC that we needed to get a goal soon, and if we did we would win by 3 or 4 if we didn’t we would draw 1-1.

Palms scored 2, one of them an absolute belter from outside the box – even their keeper said “f*** me, that was a good goal”. Frank Belt scored a brilliant free kick and Nathan Hotte (my MOM) got a well worked goal right at the death.

In reality, we should have won about 13/14-1, their keeper made some fine saves and we squandered good positions and chances, but it wasn’t as gloomy as i’m making it on here.

Ref was reasonable, was even accused in the first half of being a traveling “red”  – pissed myself at that one.

No joy with the raffle.

Merry Christmas everyone, see you on Saturday for the Hall Road Encounter
