Brid 3 Liversedge 0 (h)

16 01 2009

The reason for the lack of activity, is not because I’m a lazy sod (which I am), but due to the Arctic like conditions postponing many games. The big downside of this, is the games will probably be played midweek, when I’m likely to be away.

We did play a game on Saturday 3rd Jan away at Dinnington – me, I took me lad and father in law fishing off the harbour wall. For 9 years i’ve been wanting to have a go at sea fishing off the harbour wall, but never got round to it. It was bloody freezing too. Me and laddo caught nothing but frostbite, the wily old father in law, caught  flatties. Apart from the sub zero temperatures, we had a good time.

The Dinnington one surprised many, we were 3-0 up and coasting at half time (best football many had said they’d seen in ages), they then witnessed some of the worst football they’d seen in ages as the full time score was 3-3. The mighty Groundhopper was there, and he gives a fantastic account of the game on his website. His reports are very amusing and full of great anecdotes and facts, give him a read, you’ll go back for more.

On the same day, dear old Stoke had the ignominy to get thrashed 2-0 by the monkey hangers of Hartlepool, in the FA Cup. The FA meaning, yes you guessed it, fook all. But amazingly a week later, we give Liverpool a good run for their money (their billions $$$) in a game we could have and should have won.

So the next game is cancelled also, so this leads us to the Liversedge game. A massive milestone in our house, as me laddo reaches the dizzy heights of 13 – and he gets to see a great game.

We had to draft in a few players to cope with simultaneous suspensions within the team. And to be honest all of them slotted in very well, which would make the next games selection a very tough one. It would be very harsh on those lads that came in to not get another run out in the near future. Gareth Slater, Craig Palmer (with another astonishing effort) and Damien Fearn. The Liversedge players were moaning at each other towards the end of the first half, particularly with the front two (one of their front two was a man mountain who’s physique wouldn’t have looked out of place in a rugby league team – he was huge).

Only 118 braved the freezing temperatures to see an excellent performance.

And still no luck with the raffle.

Away at Lincoln Moorlands tomorrow, should be a goal fest, so 0-0 it will be then !!

An amusing video to waist a couple of minutes of your life. The old Bernard Cribbins classic with a Lego video
